Catherine's Choice

Catherine’s choice produce a range of home made chutneys and preserves. When they first approached Square One they were in a position a lot of small food producers find themselves in. Although the feedback they were getting from potential retailers was fantastic in relation to the quality of their products. Their branding and packaging was holding them back as retailers wanted a ‘polished’ product to put on their shelves. Our brief was to create a brand and range of packaging which, whilst maintaining their ‘homemade’ routes, had enough impact to attract larger retailers such as Waitrose. They also wanted to avoid the clichéd look of gingham lids. The other major challenge was to find them a labelling solution which looked the part but was also economically viable as they could not buy thousands of labels at a time.

The design concept was simple but effective, using a modern font with organic icons to create a brand they could use across the range. We also colour coded each of the ranges so consumers could easily differentiate between savoury chutneys and jams and jellies which enables them to offer retailers a point of sale solution for their broad range of products

Since our initial involvement Catherine’s choice has gone from strength to strength. They have developed a strong portfolio of small independent retailers along with showcasing their products at Harrods. In addition they have developed a successful catering side to the business and currently supply a number of high profile restaurants including Jamie Oliver’s ‘fifteen’ in Cornwall and London. Gordon Ramsay also had high praise for their products, and used then in the recent ‘Kitchen Nightmares’.
